Have you wondered how you’re drawing people? How are you attracting others? Why do people want to be around you? Who do you want in your presence? While the world vies for our attention, we are also drawn by God into His presence.
The Story: John 4
In John 4:4-30, Jesus had to go to Samaria at noon. As He sat on the well, a woman came to draw water. Jesus asked her for some of her water. Instead of giving Him water, she asked a question. She wanted to know why He would ask her for water when He was a Jew and she was a Samaritan. In His wisdom, Jesus responded that if she knew who He was, she would have asked Him for a drink and He would have given her living water. She countered that He didn’t have anything to draw with and what was living water. Jesus advised that with His water, she would never thirst again. As a result, she asked Him for the living water.
Then Jesus asked her to go get her husband. She honestly stated that she didn’t have one. He advised that she spoke correctly for she had five husbands and an extra. With the presence of the truth, she acknowledged that He was a prophet and provided the history of her ancestors. However, Jesus advised that the former ways of worshipping were changing with the presence of the Messiah. As a matter of fact, a time would soon come when they would worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. She was aware of the coming Messiah and how He would explain everything. Jesus confirmed that He was the Messiah. As a result, she left her waterpots and told everyone what happened to her.
The Lesson
Like the woman at the well, we are drawn by God with His love. Jeremiah 31:3 says “I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” What are we doing with the loving kindness we received? Are we drawing or are we dragging? Are we loving or are we lording? Or are
we showing joy or giving judgment? These questions offer a moment of self-reflection. Therefore, no matter where we find ourselves, the Lord is here with lovingkindness. How will we answer the call of God? While we may have accepted Him as Savior, He now calls us into purpose. How will we respond when God asks us to go higher in Him? He has a plan and a purpose for us. Will our response be yes or not now?
