Committed To The Cause

How do you approach life? Do you give half-hearted effort? Or are you committed to the cause? Do you diligently press through the obstacle or faint at the first sign of discomfort? No matter where you find yourself, there’s no judgement. We’ve all been on both sides of the spectrum at some point. However, if we’re to achieve anything, we must commit to the cause.

The Story: Luke 22:39-46

In Luke 22:39-46, Jesus was on His way to the Mount of Olives along with His disciples. He urged them to continually pray so they wouldn’t succumb to temptation. Eventually, He left them so He could pray alone. During His prayer, He asked God to remove this cup if it be His will. Nevertheless, Jesus only wanted God’s will. Afterwards, an angel strengthened Him. Jesus continued in prayer to the point that His tears became like drops of blood. When He finished praying, Jesus returned to the disciples and found them sleeping. Again He reminded them of the need to pray to avoid temptation.

The Lesson

Jesus is a true example of being committed to the cause.

Like Jesus, God has an assignment for us. The path to completion won’t be easy. Susan Elizabeth Phillips once said, “anything worth having is worth fighting for.” Although the assignment of Jesus is on a totally different level than ours, the same commitment is necessary. In similar fashion, we must endure the difficulties, challenges, and obstacles to fulfill our purpose. We are destined to impact the lives of others. If we’re don’t commit, people can’t receive what we have to offer.

So what’s preventing our commitment to the cause? Below are several possibilities.

  1. We don’t know our cause. The cause is our purpose and assignment. What’s that thing we enjoy doing? What do we have heart or passion for? The answers to these questions provide insight into the identification of the cause.
  2. We don’t know how to start. Read and research. Find information and learn all we can so we are equipped and ready to execute.
  3. We’re afraid and uncertain. Pray. Through prayer, we find strength and answers. This form of communication gives us access to God and helps us continue with the cause.
  4. We don’t know what to do without our friends. Despite the amount of support we have, remain committed to the cause. There may be waves of supporters, but we remain steadfast despite who comes or goes.

Are you ready to commit to the cause? Time to take the steps to fulfill the assignment.
