Nameless But Purposed

In today’s society, people find fascination with the lives of celebrities. There’s even a TV show that provides the latest happenings in celebrity news. Reels abound on social media providing the latest gossip. But what about you, the nameless? Do you still have purpose despite people not knowing your name? Yes! You can be nameless but purposed.

The Story: John 4:4-39

In John 4:4-39, Jesus had to go to Samaria to meet a woman at the well. The conversation began with a request from Jesus for physical water from the well. However, the woman wasn’t quick to provide the water. She wanted to know why He was speaking to her since she was a woman and a Samaritan. Jesus advised her that she asked the wrong question. He explained that she didn’t know who she was talking to nor the living water He had.

Although the woman was perplexed by the conversation, she continued the exchange with Jesus. As Jesus told her truths about herself, she saw Him as a prophet. Later, she discovered Him as the Messiah. This revelation caused her to drop her waterpot and run to tell others about the man who knew all about her. From her evangelism, many Samaritans came to believe in Jesus.

The Lesson

The Samaritan woman was nameless but purposed. The lack of a name didn’t prevent her from sharing her testimony. Although she’s without a name, her story resides in the pages of the Bible. So if Jesus used her nameless self to bring people to Christ, what can He do with you?

Your name may not grace the cover of magazines or TV shows. You may not flood people’s social media. Despite the absence of notoriety, God has a purpose for you. He uniquely designed you to fill a role in the Earth.

Instead of grabbing social media, grab a mirror. Reflect on the amazing person staring back at you. You survived and overcame a lot. Your accomplishments are yours and no one can take them away. With your rich history of trials and successes, what’s next on the horizon? Your current nameless state doesn’t dictate your future success or negate your purpose. You have much ahead to do and the world awaits.
