Valued

Worthy

Have you ever wanted a tribe? A group of people who loved and accepted you for you. They embraced your flaws and showed love. Instead of finding a tribe, you discovered a band of perpetrators. One minute they treat you as an outcast. Yet when a need arises, they welcome you into the fold. “Oh, now you’re worthy?”

The Story: Judges 11:1-11

In Judges 11:1-11, Jephthah was a brave warrior and the son of a prostitute. Because of who his mother was, his siblings ostracized him and kept the family home from him. Jephthah left Gilead and moved to another area. While he was away, the Ammonites fought against Gilead. Therefore, the elders of Gilead found Jephthah and asked him to return to Gilead as their leader.

As expected, Jephthah didn’t welcome their request with open arms. He reminded them of how they removed him from the family home. Yet, now they wanted him because they had a need. Because of their desperation, the elder reiterated their plea. Again, Jephthah questioned their intentions. The elders confirmed that as the Lord was their witness, Jephthah would indeed become their leader upon his return to Gilead. As a result, Jephthah returned.

The Lesson

How many times do people underestimate you? They determine your value based on external attributes and circumstances. These people attempt to raise you up or lower you based on popular opinion. Depending on the number of likes and shares, they determine if you’re worthy of recognition. As a result, you begin to wonder about your own value because no one liked, shared, or even viewed your post. Regardless of what social media, relatives, friends, or even naysayers say, you’re worthy. You’ve been blessed by God. The circumstances of your birth and upbringing are not happenstance but intentional. The events shaped you into the amazing person you are today. You’re magnificent and unique. The time is now to know that you’re worthy.

Like Jephthah, you have to know your worth. This internal knowledge enables you to face the detractors with strength and confidence. Yes, the naysayers are coming back. They must acknowledge their mistake because you possess what they need. Nevertheless, you express your truth as you consider their needs.

As you encounter the former detractors, know that you’re not alone. God is with you like He was with Jephthah. He sustained you after the rejection and kept you in the new place. He provided for you so you didn’t lose strength or capability. Therefore, you’re worthy and ready for what lies ahead.
