What do you do when you feel like there’s nowhere to go? You feel as though you should be happy, but your feelings say otherwise. You have relatives but they appear as distant strangers. What do you? Where do you go? Thankfully, there’s a resting place because all of your help comes from the Lord.
The Story: Numbers 1
In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses. They didn’t like that he married an Ethiopian woman. In addition, they commented that he wasn’t the only one who heard from God.
Because God heard their conversation, He called Miriam, Aaron and Moses to meet him at the tabernacle of the congregation. Upon their arrival, God summoned them outside. He addressed Miriam and Aaron directly. He advised that He speaks to prophets in dreams; however, Moses wasn’t one of them. Instead, God spoke to Moses face to face. His position with God provided Moses with direct access to God. Therefore, it was inconceivable that Miriam and Aaron thought it was okay to speak about Moses in a derogatory way. As a result, Miriam became leprous. Because of Miriam’s disease’, Aaron asked for forgiveness from Moses and prayer for Miriam’s healing. Moses obliged and sought the Lord. As a result, God advised Miriam needed to go outside the camp for seven days and she would be healed. The rest of the Israelites remained in place until she recovered.
The Lesson
Even among relatives, we can experience times when we feel like there’s nowhere to go. While the Bible doesn’t express Moses’ emotions about his siblings in the moment, we can easily imagine the rejection and sadness to hear them questioning his leadership and relationship with God. Despite his potential feelings, he didn’t have to worry because God was on his side. He handled the entire matter.
The same goes for us. We don’t have to worry about a place to go. God has us secure. When people walk away, He’s there. When relatives don’t act like family’s, we’re safe and secure with God. He’s the One on whom we can rely. At the appointed time, He will send a real family or transform the relatives into family. Rest assured, we’re not alone and have a safe place in God.
