Chapter Overview
2 Chronicles 15 opens with the Spirit of God coming upon Azariah the son of Oded, who delivers a bold prophetic message to King Asa following his victory over the Ethiopians (v. 1-2). Azariah's word is both a warning and a promise: in times past when Israel forsook God, they suffered greatly, but whenever they turned back and sought Him, He was found by them (v. 3-6). Asa responds with decisive action — removing idols, repairing the altar of the Lord, and gathering the people in Jerusalem for a great covenant renewal (v. 8-12). The people enter into a solemn oath to seek the Lord with all their heart and soul, with the joyful sound of trumpets and horns filling the air (v. 14-15). Even Asa's own mother, Maacah, is removed from her position because of her idolatry, showing that no relationship is more important than wholehearted devotion to God (v. 16).
