Hebrews 4:12

Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer also known as S.O.A.P. is a way of studying scripture. These entries will provide a quick overview of scripture and offer a mechanism for studying the Word and prayer.

Scripture:

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper, than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Observation:

  1. The Word is quick and powerful. The timing is not ours but it belongs to God. While it seems like the Word isn’t working, it’s moving and flowing quickly despite what we can or cannot see. As I reflected on this observation, I thought about “The Word.” At first, I kept thinking of the Bible but then I remembered the scripture that defines the Word. John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This scripture brings new insight into Hebrews 4:12.
  2. The Word is a weapon. It fights for me and cuts me. While protecting me, it’s purifying and correcting me so I can grow in God.

Application:

As I build my relationship with the Word, my life will transform. He will also help me build relationships with others.

Prayer:

Lord, You are the Word and everything I need is in You. Help me to surrender to the Word and grow in You. In Jesus name, Amen.
