What has God called you to do? Are you working on it? I can sense a bit of hesitation. Trust me, I understand. I’ve been slow in moving forward in the things of God. Unfortunately, I made excuses for my lack of action. I would recount the laundry list of excuses, but none of them mattered. Why? God knew me before I knew myself. Therefore, He already knows my excuses. He doesn’t care about them because His strength is made perfect in my weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9). Like me, our weaknesses work for us. Could there be another reason why God says, “We’re qualified for the assignment ahead?” Therefore, we’re qualified to work for Him for them.
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 gives us the answer. First, we’re a new creation in Christ. So, our excuses don’t understand that we’re new, but our transformed state means that we’re no longer alone. Therefore, God is the key to enabling us to fulfill the assignment. Second, we’re ambassadors for God. This means that we’re representatives of Him for them. Our them refers to those who God called us to. Therefore, we need to find our way past our excuses because He called us to Him for them.
The Story: Exodus 3-4
In Exodus 3-4, Moses has an encounter with God at the burning bush. This meeting is where God commissioned Moses for his assignment. While God was sure of Moses’ abilities, the same couldn’t be said of Moses. Throughout the exchange, Moses asked God several questions:
~Who am I to appear before Pharoah?
~Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?
~If I go, who should I tell sent me?
~What if they don’t believe me or listen to me?
After the questions, he proceeded to explain why he wasn’t qualified. None of this bothered God He had an answer for every concern. God even provided someone to walk with Moses on his assignment.
The Lesson
The story of Moses proves that we’re not alone in our concern regarding our assignment. He paved the way for us to express our uncertainty about our assignment to God. In addition, his encounter shows that God has a solution for every excuse we make. Our excuses won’t limit the mandate on our lives unless we decide to hold on to the excuses rather than God. Furthermore, God doesn’t cancel our assignment because of our list of disqualifiers. The moment we received our assignment is the moment God qualified us.
With the truth and assignment before us, the time has come to move forward. Yes, the excuses will reverberate loudly, but it’s not about us. Therefore, we accept God’s assignment because we’re representative of Him for them.
