Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer, also known as S.O.A.P., is a way of studying scripture. These entries will provide a quick overview of scripture and offer a mechanism for studying the Word and prayer.
Scripture:
“Now, if ye be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
Observation:
The key is “if” because nothing else matters until we answer the “if.” For this passage, the question is, are we dead with Christ? If the answer is no, there’s no need to read any further. If the answer is yes, then we also live with Christ. It’s important to keep in mind that it’s not what we say with our mouths but our actions.
Application:
I want to live with Christ, which means I must die with Him. Jesus died to His will, wants, and desires. He purposed to do the will of the Father, even unto the cross. I must die to myself and study the Word to know the will of God.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to live with You. I submit myself to Your plan and purpose. Help me to deny this flesh so I can serve You fully and completely. In Jesus name, Amen.
