Do you have something to say but shy away from speaking? Have you felt overlooked or discarded? Do you believe your voice isn’t important to make a differences? You’re not alone. Be encouraged for God offers another truth. He gives boldness to us so we can take a stand for Him.
The Story: Acts 4
In Acts 4, Peter and John were arrested for teaching about Jesus and healing a man. The two appeared in court to testify about their actions. With the filling of Holy Spirit, Peter spoke with boldness and declared that everything they do is in the name of Jesus, who they killed. They also proclaimed that salvation is in the name of Jesus.
When the courts heard their boldness and saw the evidence of a miracle, the officials were astonished. While they didn’t believe in Jesus, they couldn’t deny what was before their eyes. To prevent the men from continuing their behavior, the officials decided to threaten Peter and John. With continued boldness, the two advised that they will continue sharing the gospel and the officials can determine if it’s right or wrong. Without any evidence of wrongdoing, the officials released them. After their release, Peter and John shared the event with other believers. Those who heard their words prayed for boldness to speak the Word of God. As a result, Holy Spirit filled them.
The Lesson
The passage in Acts is about having the boldness to take a stand. Boldness isn’t something that comes easy for everyone. In a moment of transparency, I admit that I am one of those people. I was once a meek and timid person. Somewhere along the way, this shy person transformed. I ceased flowing with the whims of everyone and started taking a stand for myself. I’m learning my identity is in Christ and He stands with me. To maintain this stance, my prayer is “Lord, enable me to see You in all situations so I can take a stand in truth and for Your purpose.”
If you want to join me on this journey to boldness, Acts 4 gives us a guide.
