Take It Up a Notch

Have you felt a little ho-hum? You’re going through the motions, but the outcomes aren’t fulfilling. Something is missing. Have you settled for the status quo? Could it be time to take it up a notch? Time for new life and energy.

The Story: Exodus 15

In Exodus 15, the children of Israel sang and rejoiced for Pharoah and his army drowned in the Red Sea. The song encompassed their experience. First, the singers exalted God. They knew the triumph was the work of God’s hand. Second, the horse and its rider, who chased them, sank to the bottom of the Sea. Third, the Lord shattered their enemy. Indeed, the Lord vanquished the ones who tried to vanquish them. The people sang verse after verse about the victory God gave them over Pharoah and his army.

Furthermore, Miriam and the women took the revelry up a notch. They added dancing and the timbrel. In addition, Miriam concluded the song with confirmation that God was exalted because He triumphed gloriously as He hurled the horse and its rider into the Sea.

The Lesson

Admittedly, God hasn’t called all of us to be dancers. Yet, we can all take it up a notch. We’re at different levels in business, life, and spiritual matters. At the current level, we find comfort. We know what to do and agree with the expectations. We know the route and how to arrive at just the right time. In addition, we accept where we are and that’s cool.

However, what would happen if we added a little more? Could we take it up a notch and see drastic results? Yes. Absolutely. As a result, we can shake off the dust of comfort and level up a little to gain a new perspective. But what do we do?

  1. Wake up 15 minutes early ~ This extra 15 removes the rush and “barely making it” mindset. We have a little extra time of peace and quiet.
  2. Add a bible verse to the day’s routine ~ A simple verse brings strength and encouragement. The word offers hope and direction.
  3. A little walk will do us good ~ Parking a little farther away will add steps to the pedometer. The heart will rejoice with a little extra cardio.
  4. Sprinkle positive thinking throughout the day – The uplifting thoughts add fuel to one’s day. Positivity is like sunshine as it warms the heart and heals the soul.

Therefore, a few of these sprinkled throughout the day enable us to take it up a notch. As a result, we will end up singing and dancing.
