“Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name. They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them.”
After all the devastation of judgment, God's heart turns toward restoration, mercy, and the removal of shame from His people. This is a beautiful picture of what God does for every believer — He does not leave you in your failure but moves toward you with jealous, restoring love. The security described here, dwelling without fear, is a gift He offers you today through your relationship with Him.
Ezekiel 39:29 (BSB)
“And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.””
This closing promise is one of the most tender and powerful in all of Ezekiel — God declares that the day is coming when He will never again turn His face away from His people, and He seals it with the gift of His Spirit. As a New Testament believer, you live on the fulfilled side of this promise, because through Christ the Spirit has been poured out on you. I confess that I sometimes live as though the enemy has more power than he does, and I ask You to renew my confidence in Your sovereignty today. Thank You that the same God who promised to pour out His Spirit and never hide His face has fulfilled that promise in my life through Jesus Christ.
