"“O LORD, God of my master Abraham,” he prayed, “please grant me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham."
The servant's first act upon arriving at the well is prayer — specific, humble, and expectant. He does not lean on his own strategy alone but immediately turns to God for guidance. This is a model for how you can bring every decision, large or small, before the Lord and trust Him to direct your steps with His steadfast love.
Genesis 24:50-51 (BSB)
"Laban and Bethuel answered, “This is from the LORD; we have no choice in the matter. Rebekah is here before you. Take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, just as the LORD has decreed.”"
Even those outside the covenant household could see that God's hand was at work in these events. When God is orchestrating something in your life, His providence can become so evident that even unlikely voices recognize it. This is an encouragement to trust that when God is leading you, He will confirm it in ways you may not expect.

- The servant recounted God's faithfulness in detail when speaking to Rebekah's family — how often do you rehearse and retell what God has done in your own life, and how might doing so more intentionally strengthen your faith today?
- This entire chapter is a story of God working through ordinary people doing ordinary tasks — in what ordinary, everyday circumstances of your life might God be at work right now in ways you have not fully recognized or acknowledged?
Personal Application
This week, identify one decision or uncertainty you are carrying and bring it before God in specific, expectant prayer — write out exactly what you are asking Him for and watch how He answers over the days ahead.
Make it a daily practice this week to recount at least one way God has gone before you or shown faithfulness in your past, letting that remembrance fuel your trust in His guidance for your present circumstances.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for being a God who goes before me, who orchestrates the details of my life with perfect wisdom and steadfast love. Like the faithful servant in this story, help me to pause and pray first, to seek Your guidance before my own strategy, and to trust that You are at work even when I cannot see it. Give me the courage of Rebekah to say yes to Your call without hesitation, and open my eyes to recognize Your hand in the ordinary moments of my day. In Jesus name, Amen.
