Exodus — Chapter 18 (BSB)
Chapter Overview
Exodus 18 opens with a joyful reunion as Moses' father-in-law Jethro, a priest of Midian, brings Moses' wife Zipporah and their two sons to meet him in the wilderness (vv. 1-6). Hearing all that God had done for Israel, Jethro breaks into praise, declaring in verse 11 that the LORD is greater than all other gods, a remarkable confession of faith from an outsider. Moses and Jethro then worship together, and Aaron and all the elders of Israel share a meal before God (v. 12), a beautiful picture of fellowship centered on God's mighty works. Beginning in verse 13, Jethro observes Moses exhausting himself by judging the people alone from morning to evening, and he lovingly confronts him about it.
